In this major project for the year, each school/district team will collaborate on a Learning Design Project. This project asks your team, and then by extension some element of your school/district, to engage in an effort at changing the learner experience of school toward vibrant learning models. This project does not need to be school-wide, but it does need to serve as a potential entry point to something that could grow and sustain at your school. In fact, many schools over the years have found success in this effort when choosing projects that are already closely aligned to existing strengths of the school and help to extend work that is already underway.  Â

To help in this process, throughout the year, you will work through the steps in the Learning Design Playbook. At each meeting of the Leadership Academy, we will return to this Playbook. You, and your team, will be asked to work independently on these steps in gathering data, defining the challenges, curating ideas, implementing a prototype, and then testing its effectiveness. This Playbook will help to guide you through the steps.Â
The culmination of the year of work will be an exhibition of the results of your Learning Design Project at the end of the Leadership Academy year. Each team will present their work to feedback providers who regularly join the Academy on the last day to hear about the great work going on in Kentucky to improve schools. As you are working on the Learning Design Project, it is best to collect evidence along the way that can be shared at the exhibition. This includes photos, videos, evidence of student work, results from learning assessments, and many others. On the last day, your team will have approximately 10 minutes to share your work and tell the story of the amazing changes you tried together.Â
